The Sidney Poitier New American Film School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Associate Director. The Associate Director will be located on the Tempe and Mesa campuses and will be hired at the rank of Professor. This is a full-time, fiscal-year faculty position with an administrative appointment, beginning July 2022 or thereafter.

Position Description

The position of Associate Director at the rank of Professor is a tenure-eligible faculty position with an administrative appointment. The Associate Director serves faculty and students in The Sidney Poitier New American Film School, collaborates with school leadership and staff, and engages with leadership, staff, and faculty across the university. The Associate Director will focus on supporting and facilitating academic affairs related to faculty, oversee the development of new curriculum with faculty and staff, and coordinate the programs of the Tempe, Mesa and California Center campuses. The successful candidate will also teach in the school’s degree programs. The Sidney Poitier New American Film School seeks candidates with a record of successful leadership in an academic institution, significant research/creative work, a record of excellence in teaching, and perspectives aligned with our aim to be the most inclusive, most affordable and most innovative film and media production program in the world.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated successful and significant academic leadership/administrative experience in film or related field.
  • MFA, PhD, or a terminal degree in education, film and media, or a related field.
  • Evidence of sustained professional research or creative activity in film or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in film.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices pertaining to managing academic programs.
  • Successful experience in supporting faculty career development in an academic setting.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Skill in effectively managing, supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Skill in academic program design and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and cultivate collaborative teams.
