Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced professional for a full-time position as a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC). Gettysburg College is a residential undergraduate liberal arts and sciences college, which enrolls approximately 2,500 students. The Office of Residential Education (ResEd) has developed a setting where innovation and creativity are key components to the implementation of a strategic and developmentally sequenced educational program that focuses on the four Citizenship Pillars: Be Curious, Own Your Experience, Engage Difference, and Make an Impact. They are seeking a dynamic individual who has a student-centered and collaborative background to serve in this position. It is expected that the Residential Life Coordinator will work collaboratively within Residential Education on the development and implementation of a comprehensive residential life program that promotes students’ personal and intellectual growth.

Responsibilities of these positions include:

  • Implementation and ongoing revision of the Residential Learning Plan. The learning plan drives decisions that influence all activities ranging from individual conversations with residents to community meetings and connections to campus resources.
  • Supervision of a residential student staff of up to 20 members. The student staff experience is designed to achieve the learning goals presented in the Student Staff Learning Plan.
  • Organize and/or assist in implementing student staff selection, trainings, and evaluations
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer
  • Assist in the coordination of housing processes
  • Collaborate with Facilities Services and the Department of Public Safety
  • Handle emergencies that arise including serving on the campus’s on-call rotation
  • One RLC position will focus primarily on first-year students and programs, while the other RLC position will focus primarily on sophomore, junior, and senior students and programs.

The Residential Life Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director of Residential Education.

A successful candidate for the Residential Life Coordinator will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in support of the overall student experience and should expect to contribute to work groups, committees, and projects outside of the core responsibilities of this position. Gettysburg believes cross-departmental involvement and collaboration creates stronger teamwork, a better student experience, and professional development opportunities for staff.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • A master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field, is preferred.
  • The ability to demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and intercultural communication skills is required.
  • Previous experience working in a liberal arts context is preferred; the ability to translate past work to a liberal arts context is required.
  • Work independently yet collaboratively
  • Provide attention to detail
  • Balance multiple projects
  • Meet deadlines successfully
  • Demonstrate qualities that would contribute to a setting where innovation, initiative, and creativity help foster vibrant and engaged residential communities
  • Be student centered
  • Demonstrate a commitment to their own personal and professional growth
  • Engage in assessment as a tool to measure the effectiveness of the department’s educational program

In keeping with its strategic focus, Gettysburg College is interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to contributing to an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community.
