Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) announces a search for an Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Success. The Assistant Dean position will be a 1.0 FTE with 75% administrative duties and 25% academic assignment (teaching, research, clinical) will serve as the primary point of contact for handling non-academic issues for professional veterinary students, manage the veterinary admissions process with the Assistant Director of Admissions, and will oversee the awards and scholarship process. Areas of primary responsibility will include (1) serving as primary contact person for student counseling resources, emergencies and (un)planned student absences, (2) coordination of veterinary admissions process (3) Chair awards and scholarship committee and distribute scholarship funds in coordination with the student financial aid coordinator (4) Oversight of student clubs (5) Participation in student faculty communications committee (6) Oversight of first year student orientation with assistance of the admissions team (7) assistance with selected other professional student functions, including senior exit interviews.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the integrated professional, technical and administrative principles and procedures of veterinary education
  • Ability to foster a cooperative and supportive environment for veterinary students
  • Ability to provide clinical guidance and leadership to professional students
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short-and long-range goals
The successful candidate will have an academic appointment as Associate Professor or Professor (Clinical or Tenure Track as appropriate). The incumbent in this position will report to the department Chair for their faculty assignment and the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs (ADASA) for the Assistant Dean assignment. The annual evaluation will be completed by the ADASA on the performance of the administrative duties with input from the department chair on their faculty assignment.

Expected Salary:

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential Qualifications: DVM, VMD, or equivalent foreign veterinary degree plus at least six years academic experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desired Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to veterinary students, staff and faculty, demonstrated leadership potential, understanding of admissions process, and proficient with MS Excel (preferred, but not required).
