As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Research Assistant. Through funding from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Research Assistant will carry out research in Dr. McClelland’s Research Group to understand how the yeast C. neoformans (Cn) interacts with host macrophages, specifically how Cn modulates macrophage cell signaling. This position is full-time and compensated by hourly wage.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments.
  • Keep records detailing research activities.
  • Disseminate research findings through presentation and publication.
  • Complete all required biosafety/biosecurity training requirements and comply with institutional policies for conflicts of interest and research operations.
  • Assist with manuscript preparation and presentation for scientific conferences.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree + relevant experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills – must be able to work unsupervised
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Word and Excel
