Position Summary

The Scientific Workforce Specialist will coordinate workforce and junior scientists’ professional development activities, as well as act as the liaison between program leadership and junior scientists’ mentors. This position will assume an active role in the integration of various education and diversity initiatives within the Clinical and Translational Science Institute by working with leaders along the pipeline to facilitate, integrate, and coordinate workforce development at all levels. The position will collaborate, mentor, and interact with all individuals in the workforce involved in clinical and translational science pipeline to enhance excellence through inclusion and diversity. The position will play an active role in recruiting junior scientists as CTSI K Scholars, developing and setting up core competency and professional development workshop series in conjunction with the CTSI K Scholar Program Lead and other members of the leadership team.
Duties include:
  • Coordinate all workforce and junior scientists’ professional development activities, as well as act as the liaison between program leadership and junior scientists’ mentors.
  • Assume an active role in the integration of various education and diversity initiatives within the Clinical and Translational Science Institute by working with leaders along the pipeline to facilitate, integrate, and coordinate workforce development at all levels.
  • Collaborate mentor, and interact with all individuals in the workforce involved in clinical and translational science pipeline to enhance excellence through inclusion and diversity.
  • Play an active role in recruiting junior scientists as CTSI K Scholars
  • Organizing and developing online modules and providing professional development.
The Scientific Workforce Specialist’s work is directed by the Program Lead of the CTSI K Scholar Mentored Career Development Award Program, and Director of the CTSI Workforce Development Core, and will collaborate closely with other senior leaders in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute including the Chief Operating Officer.

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute ( CTSI ) and its Clinical and Translational Science Award ( CTSA ) represent a large NIH infrastructure grant to support clinical and translational research at the University at Buffalo (UB) and the Buffalo Translational Consortium ( BTC ) partner institutions under the leadership of the Director of the CTSI . The Project Administrative Officer (Scientific Workforce Specialist) is a position funded by the CTSA awarded to the University at Buffalo to synergize and enhance work in clinical and translational science research and to train and develop a diverse clinical and translational workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

· Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
· Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
· Experience in working in an inclusive and diverse environment.
· Five years experience working with faculty in a college or university setting

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS degree in biomedical, clinical, translational and/or behavioral sciences. (PhD’s welcome to apply)
  • Organization of professional and career development curriculum as well as experience with delivery in person and/or on line modules are preferred.
  • Basic and/or clinical research background, as well familiarity with scientific and medical terminology.
  • Coordinating and developing the professional development program for CTSI K Scholars that supports individualized and group instruction, i.e., micro-credential programs, CTSA -specific on line core competency training modules, seminars and workshops, outreach training modules and new workshops when appropriate.
  • Mentoring and advising experience
  • Five years experience working with faculty in a college or university setting

$51,500 - $58,000
