Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Philosophy at Salve Regina University is seeking qualified and highly motivated instructors to teach in the capacity of a fulltime lecturer in the 2022-23 academic year. This will be a one-year appointment with a 4-4 teaching load. Primary responsibilities will be teaching sections of the required PHL-225 Quest for the Good Life course (description below), though there may be opportunities to teach some elective courses as well depending on need and the applicant's area of expertise.

PHL-225 Quest for the Good Life (3 Credits):

This course engages the philosophical and ethical literature seeking answers to the question: What makes a life good? We shall explore the roles of reason and faith in the search for the good life and probe subjects such as: happiness, wisdom, justice, and other virtues through study of the great works of philosophers, such as Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, Kant, and Mill. In their company, we will have the opportunity to examine our lives and what makes for a life truly worth living.


Requirements:
  • A minimum of a master's degree in Philosophy (Ph.D. or ABD preferred); teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach in-person on the Newport campus on the days and at the times listed above.
