WERS Development Officer

The WERS Development Officer manages all aspects of efforts that yield listener support, including the planning and execution of on-air drives, renewal letter campaigns and telemarketing

The WERS Development Officer is responsible for achieving WERS Membership revenue goals by coordinating fundraising activities including on-air drives, direct mail, telemarking, the major gifts program, and the vehicle donation program. Goals will be set annually by the WERS General Manager based on a review of previous performance with consideration given to any unique circumstances.

  • Plan and manage bi-annual on-air fundraising drives and any approved supplemental campaigns ie: end of year, end of fiscal year. These time intensive efforts require a flexible schedule in order to maximize their potential.
  • Create training modules and organize all support structures for the drives; this includes business support in the form of on-air drive matches and in-kind donations, volunteers, food, messaging, and accurately tracking gifts
  • Manage donor records and financial transactions using the fundraising database.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the professional Membership Coordinator on research leading to the creation and execution of strategies and programs that increase individual contributors (membership).
  • Provide sufficient training for the Membership Coordinator to become the primary voice for the department during on-air fundraising campaigns and on production elements.
  • Supervise and introduce student Membership Assistant to the process and tools used to execute membership campaigns. Include the student in daily department activity in a meaningful way so as to provide a hands-on education in fundraising
  • Establish and maintain rapport with active membership base using cost effective station marketing and promotion including email, letter campaigns, and social media
  • Works with WERS General Manager on annual fundraising calendar, digital/off-air campaigns and stewardship initiatives including building relationships with major donors
  • Travel up to 2 days a week per month for vendor/major gift prospect visits
  • Communicate projections and actuals to WERS General Manager
  • Day-to-day management of the department including customer service for membership-based inquiries and ongoing reconciliation of funds taken in as reflected by the station's membership software and Workday
  • All other duties as assigned


Grade of Position: A16E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Salary: $62,600.00
