This is a part-time, 11 months-per-year position.

This position performs its duties on both the Kentfield and Indian Valley (Novato) campuses, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The job of Laboratory Technician Class Series (Sculpture/Fine Art) is done for the purpose/s of performing a variety of learning resources activities, as well as technical and clerical work related to the operation of a student sculpture lab.
Essential Functions
- Supports various learning resource activities in sculpture classroom as directed by sculpture faculty.
- Directs students working on sculpture assignments for the purpose of guiding and monitoring their activities.
- Assists individual students in safety procedures and proper use of sculpting equipment (e.g., gas welder, electric welder, plasma cutter, sheer cutter, wood band saw and metal band saw, foundry).
- Assists individual students in set-up and clean-up of studio tools.
- Monitors student activities while in sculpture lab for the purpose of monitoring the safety of the students and the equipment.
- Maintains a variety of records for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information related to sculpture lab.
- Manages the supply of sculpture materials, tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) by keeping inventories, communicating with sculpture faculty about their needs, monitoring budgets, submitting requisitions, coordinating delivery, and maintaining a well-organized storeroom.
- Maintains a variety of art lab equipment, materials and/or supplies for the purpose of providing a clean, organized layout and safe work environment.
- Performs and/or coordinates repair and preventive maintenance on lab equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and/or materials.
- Designs and fabricates equipment and items for the purpose of ensuring availability for classroom use.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. safe operating procedures for equipment) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information, etc.
- Supports classroom teachers (e.g. set up lab demonstrations, prepare materials) for the purpose of complementing classroom instruction.
- Coordinates purchase, documentation, and disposal of hazard materials according to College and department protocols.
Other Functions:
- Assists with Fine Arts department-wide technical or lab-related issues on an as-needed basis.
- Acts as liaison between faculty and Maintenance and Operations Department.

REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in art lab; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications. Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information before groups; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: use of equipment required in lab; processes required to complete art projects; safety requirements.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and coordinate a significant number of factors in the use of equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and use equipment for a variety of purposes under different conditions that requires an understanding of various methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of similar types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions; with data it is limited; and with equipment it is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with constant interruptions. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.

Supplemental & Salary Information
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. Generally, the job requires 15% sitting, 40% walking and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, some hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.), and in varying atmospheric conditions.
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: CSEA 115
Starting Salary Range: $29.31 - $32.31 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

CLASSIFICATION & RETIREMENT PLAN
Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA) Chapter 196 and are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 7% their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
