JOB SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of the Multicultural Center will work to create an inclusive community by supporting the work of the Multicultural Center, with a special emphasis supporting the inclusion and acceptance of those who identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community as well as first-generation college students. The Coordinator will use assessment tools to identify areas of growth, new initiatives, and new programs to establish Adelphi University as “a model of diversity and inclusion” in accordance with Momentum II: The Strategic Plan for Adelphi University and with University values.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Dean for Students and Community Engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Support the overall programming and operations of the Multicultural Center and the Center for Student and Community Engagement.
  2. Assist with the coordination of assessment efforts including the campus's participation in the Campus Pride Index.
  3. Assist with diversity trainings including coordinating the Safe Zone program on campus providing ongoing training to students, faculty and staff and assisting with the execution of diversity and social justice-related trainings, such as CORE (Creating Ongoing Respect and Equity) program.
  4. Serve as part of the Green Dot Implementation team and provide bystander training for the campus community.
  5. Coordinate and develop LGBTQ+ related educational and social programs including the Out to Lunch Series, LGBTQ+ History Month, Trans Visibility Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance and first-year LGBTQ+ empowerment group.
  6. Develop programming in support of First-Generation College students including National First Gen Day, orientation programming, and programming for first-gen graduates.
  7. Assist with the planning and execution division-wide initiatives including Spirit Weekend, Welcome Weekend, and New Student Orientation.
  8. Serve as a club liaison to student organizations alongside the Center for Student and Community Engagement.
  9. Serve as part of a team which provides professional coverage for late night and weekend programs as needed.
  10. Participate in university committees as established by the Director including the LGBTQ+ Task Force and the First-Gen Student Task Force.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  1. A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  2. Knowledge and experience with student development.
  3. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  4. Knowledge and experience with assessment strategies and planning.
  5. Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse groups.
  6. Ability to serve as a role model and mentor for students and staff.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Master's degree preferred.
  3. One to two years of experience within the Student Affairs area is required.
