JOB DESCRIPTION

The Philosophy & Religion Department at the University of Indianapolis seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice for Religion. This is a full-time, non tenure-track nine-month position with full benefits.

The Assistant Professor of Practice will carry a 4-4 teaching load and offer courses primarily for the undergraduate general education religion curriculum. Ability to develop and teach freshman writing-focused seminars in religion, religion honors courses, and/or interdisciplinary courses desirable. The successful candidate is expected to be committed to high-quality classroom teaching, carry out an ongoing research agenda and provide service to the department and University. The faculty member will provide support for faculty in the Shaheen College of Arts & Sciences in developing online courses and assist the department and college in ongoing assessment projects. The faculty member will be expected to pursue two research projects: one in Religion, and another in Online Pedagogy/Assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry a 4-4 teaching load and offer courses primarily for the undergraduate general education religion curriculum
  • Carry out an ongoing research agenda in the areas of religion and in online pedagogy and its assessment
  • Pursue two research projects: one in Religion, and another in Online Pedagogy/Assessment
  • Provide service to the department and University including but not limited to guiding faculty in developing online courses and assisting the department and college in ongoing assessment projects
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in Religion is required
  • Ability to teach introductory and upper divisional courses in religion such as survey courses in Christianity, World Religions, Islam, Buddhism, upper divisional courses related to the Christian Religion, e.g. Christian Theology, History of Christianity, etc
  • Possess past experience and publications related to online pedagogy and its assessment
