Job Description:
The Vice Chair of Research will hold an Endowed Professorship in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Vice Chair (VC) of Research works closely with the Department of Emergency Medicine Chair to develop priorities and milestones for the research mission. This person maintains a portfolio of investigator-initiated funding and mentors junior physician-scientist faculty. The VC of Research oversees all aspects of the research mission and maintains oversight of financial aspects of the research mission. S/he works with the Vice Chair of Faculty Development to create scholarship opportunities for academic faculty that align with department and COM priorities.
Major Responsibilities include:
Leadership
- Maintain a highly productive research mission with a national and international reputation.
- Assist the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in developing/ recruiting/ retaining high potential research faculty
- Represent the DEM at relevant COM and university committee meetings
- Work with the Senior Associate Dean of Research to implement cross-disciplinary research initiatives
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior faculty members in defining and developing their research and directions.
- Compete successfully for external funding to maintain a well-rounded research portfolio.
- Develop infrastructure to expand resident, fellow, graduate student, medical student and undergraduate involvement in research, presentations, and publications.
- Set priorities and key metrics to reflect research and scholarship within the DEM
- Create and implement, with departmental leaders, new research programs to achieve the DEM vision and goals
- Work with the Chair to develop strategic short- and long-term goals within research mission
- Provide oversite, guidance, and annual evaluations to faculty members within the research mission.
- Provide oversight for research administrative staff and research-directed faculty to ensure effective resource utilization
Salary is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
All physicians must be Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine ABEM/ABOEM Board Certified/Board-Eligible.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Established track record of federal investigator-initiated research funding
- Experience leading clinical or translational research program
- Success in mentoring research faculty in career development programs
- Associate or above rank with the ability to meet qualifications for tenure at the University of Florida
