The Director position provides leadership in implementing, coordinating and supporting comprehensive, student-centered initiatives that support the formation of community, foster student retention and promote the development of the whole student. Oversees department compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to disability services for students, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as well as any College policies. Provides programming designed to support and encourage the integration of students with disabilities into the College of Charleston community, where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the educational environment.

A minimum of a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Educational Psychology, Disability Studies, Special Education, Social Work, Occupational Health, Student Affairs Administration or other relevant field of study required. Direct experience working within a Disability Services office on a college campus; experience determining eligibility for accommodations for college students; leadership experience within a post-secondary Disability Resource Office. Experience in supervising, budgeting and working with technology applications relevant to this area. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

· Strong working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2009; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Fair Housing Act (FHA—in relation to emotional support animals), the principles of universal design and; other federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability

· Ability to interpret psychoeducational reports and other disability documentation; knowledge around reputable resources and/or the ability to implement personal strategies in instances where consultation or further information is needed for determination of eligibility of services and or to implement reasonable and effective accommodations.

· Outstanding interpersonal skills, including ability to clarify and mediate differences of opinion through effective communication

· Expertise in developing interactive and dynamic presentations for both expert and non-expert audiences

· Strong working knowledge related to digital accessibility

· Experience with student information and customer relationship management software, Microsoft Office suite preferred; willingness and ability to master relevant College technologies and programs required
