POSITION PURPOSE

The Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Composition teaches courses in composition, professional writing, and interdisciplinary studies. The Assistant Professor of Composition is a tenure track position, and advises students; serves on institutional and/or faculty committees; and participates in ongoing professional development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Composition is responsible for

  • Teaching at least 24 credits per academic year in composition, professional writing (e.g., copywriting, editing, technical writing, writing for non-profits) and interdisciplinary studies, including the interdisciplinary studies core;

  • Administering and/or developing coursework (assignments, projects, in-class learning activities, critiques, exams) that meets and assesses course learning objectives;

  • Facilitating opportunities for students to engage in experiential education;

 

The Assistant Professor of Composition is also responsible for

  • Advising students;

  • Serving on faculty and/or institutional committees;

  • Participating in professional development.



SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & SKILLS

  • MA, MFA, or PhD, in English, composition, creative writing, or rhetoric;

  • Experience teaching introductory and advanced composition courses;

  • Experience teaching professional writing;

  • Experience in the process of publishing;

  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities;

  • Experience working effectively with individuals of varying ages, backgrounds, and motivations.
