Assistant Director of Recruitment, Admissions/New Student Services

The Admissions Office at the University of Montana invites applications for an Assistant Director of Recruitment . The person assigned to this position will lead the Admissions recruitment team and apply the solid foundation of recruitment strategy with an innovative flair.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and closely collaborate with Assistant Director of Admissions for Events and Experience and the Assistant Director of Evaluations to ensure a strong working relationship between evaluations, campus events and recruitment.
  • Assess staffing and training needs based on departmental goals, objectives, and timetables to achieve set enrollment targets.
  • Creates and implements training to direct reports.
  • Develop and initiate process improvements to recruitment team to improve student experience and internal processes. Manage recruitment budget and authorize purchasing decisions. Monitor progress towards goals and hold recruitment staff accountable. Provide strategic guidance to recruitment staff.
  • Analyze recruitment and enrollment related data to determine effectiveness of initiatives and make data informed decisions.
  • Maximize use of technology in all operational and strategic aspects of recruitment.
  • Participate in planning with Director of Undergraduate Admissions on long-term strategic direction of office of admissions, including strategy, budget, staffing, etc.
  • Analyze, articulate, report and advise on recruitment strategy – including travel, contracts, and strategic direction - effectiveness using statistical data gathered from Slate or other sources. In consultation with Director of Undergraduate Admissions, responsible for developing and revising recruitment strategy consistent with return on investment.
  • Work closely with Director of Undergraduate Admissions and the Asst. Director of Enrollment Marketing on creation of recruitment materials in traditional and digital forms.
  • Collaborate on recruitment communication strategy through content creation, data analysis and execution.
  • Attends as a representative of the Office of Admissions and participates in meetings, campus task forces, committees, workshops, seminars, conferences and training sessions as requested.
  • Work with the Director of Admissions to collaborate with Schools/Colleges, Financial Aid, etc. on aligning recruitment initiatives.
  • Create and deliver innovative, professional recruitment presentations to various groups. Exercise judgment and discretion in choosing topics and presentation modes.
  • Represent the University both on- and off-campus to a prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.
  • Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel to distant sites in the state of Montana and nationally.
  • Serve as a liaison between prospective students and academic departments, colleges and schools, Global Engagement Office, Financial Aid, Registrar, Vets Office and other campus departments to assist/advise/guide prospective students through the admissions process.
  • Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University. One-on-one admissions counseling to diverse populations is an important responsibility of this position. Admissions counseling occurs primarily by in-person appointments, phone calls and emails.
  • Ability to grant and deny admissions applications.
  • Oversee special project areas as assigned.
  • Track and assess programmatic needs, develop proposals for strategic planning based on target goals and expectations.
  • Assume responsibilities relating to recruitment in the absence of Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Manage Admissions Recruitment department staff of seven professional staff members and numerous student employees.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, development, succession planning, and annual employees performance evaluations to ensure knowledge transfer and smooth operations of Recruitment.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position is $55,000 - $62,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong organizational and public speaking skills; must deliver professional presentations.
  • Ability to talk knowledgeably about UM and answer broad questions involving individual programs, financial aid, student services, residence life, advising, etc. Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, decision making, writing and editing skills.
  • Experience leading and supervising a team.
  • Must be able to think creatively, maintain confidentiality, and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Banner, Slate or other relational databases.
  • Ability to research and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to analyze return on investment of admissions activities. Ability to measure and evaluate employee performance.
  • Ability to create systems that facilitate knowledge transfer of job duties. Strong marketing and design skills. Attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
