Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management

Required Qualifications:
  • M.S. in Engineering or Construction Management, or Master's in Business Administration, or 6 years of experience in heavy civil construction
  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management
  • At least 15 years experiences in U.S. construction industry as a Project Manager or higher in a diverse environment
  • Demonstrated active participation in professional organizations/associations in the engineering and construction industry
  • Ability to raise funds to support department activities
  • Demonstrated potential to teach at college level
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering or Construction Management or closely related field
  • Track record of effective partnerships with private, municipal, and governmental entities
  • Experience in mentoring students
  • Ability to promote faculty involvement in the areas of heavy civil and construction management
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

The Beavers Charitable Trust promotes careers in heavy civil construction through endowed scholarships and teaching positions. The Director of Beavers at CSULB is endowed faculty position funded by the Beavers Charitable Trust and an industry match. The incumbent will be a vital liaison between the heavy civil industry and the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management, and will complement the traditional faculty in the department with extensive industry experience.

Duties:
  • Develop and build partnerships with public and private entities
  • Create an endowment fund within the department in order to support department activities
  • Establish a center of excellence in heavy civil construction
  • Develop new courses in collaboration with faculty to fulfill departmental and industry needs in heavy civil construction
  • Teach undergraduate courses in heavy civil, civil engineering, and construction management [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof]
  • Lead and develop laboratories in heavy civil engineering and construction
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and to the community
