Full-time Faculty, Economics & Finance (Rank Open)

Summary:
This is a full-time, open-rank faculty position in the Department of Business Administration, Brown School of Business and Leadership (BSOBL). The faculty will teach a variety of courses offered by the department, with a focus on face-to-face undergraduate Economics and Finance courses, beginning in August 2022. Commensurate with rank and in accordance with the University's faculty workload policy and the BSOBL Full Time Faculty Job Description, the faculty will be responsible for teaching 24-30 credit hours per academic year, advising and mentoring students, service to the university, BSOBL, and the department, and engaging in professional development and scholarly activities. Rank will be determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with education and experience.

Education/Experience:
Doctorate degree in Economics, Finance, or related field and college-level teaching experience preferred. Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or related field and record of experience and commitment to teaching required.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Industry knowledge and experience in economics, finance, or related business areas.
- Demonstrated ability to teach face-to-face economics, finance, and related business courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
- Working knowledge of curriculum development, planning, implementation, and assessment.
- Ability to assess student performance and learning.
- Ability to use classroom and learning management technologies (e.g., Blackboard).
- Capability to develop and maintain a professional network to support advising, mentoring, and placement of business majors in relevant internships and jobs.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent work ethics and organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting, standing, and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.
Essential Functions:
Instructional
- Teach 24-30 credit hours per academic year, as assigned by Department Chair and commensurate with rank.
- Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, or online courses and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; preparing assignments, grading students' work, and providing feedback to students in a timely manner.
- Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee (FMEC), and supervisor evaluations.
- Schedule and hold at least three office hours per week.
- Participate in general curriculum development and other departmental activities associated with a full-time university teaching position.
- Other responsibilities include writing syllabi, submitting mid-term and final grades, and alerting appropriate university personnel regarding student concerns on a timely basis.
- Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as stated in the policy manuals.
- Teaching assignments may require teaching day or evening classes, as needed.
- Offer quality advising services to students, including providing recommendations and resources to students on academic, co-curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
- Department service includes attending departmental meetings; participating in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental events; establishing industry relationships to generate internship and full-time placement opportunities for students.
- University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School and Departmental committees.
- Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff, and relevant academic Department/School meetings.
- Engage in professional scholarly activities to keep current in the field.
- Develop and maintain independent intellectual pursuits, including research and scholarly activities that enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Pursue internal and external funding sources to support scholarly activities.
