Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director of Operations will assist in managing all the fiscal and business activities of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) Department. Primary responsibilities will include assisting the Director in management of the fiscal and business operations of the Department, assisting faculty in administering research projects, financial reporting, assist with budget analysis and tracking, and assisting with continuous monitoring and reconciliation of all fiscal activities to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, and supervision and training of BEAM fiscal staff.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Information Technology, or other related field.
-Prior university experience working in a fiscal operations role.
-Demonstrated experience utilizing complex financial systems to extract, manipulate, and utilize financial data for decision making
-Prior supervisory and training experience.
-Excellent problem solving and leadership skills.
-Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Excel.
-Excellent written and communication skills.
-Experience handling time-sensitive and confidential records.
-Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadline.
-Able to multitask and work independently to prioritize assignments in a high volume, team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

-A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Information Technology, or other related field.
-Prior university fiscal experience working in an academic research environment
-Experience managing multiple funding sources (e.g. State funding, Foundation funding, Grant funding).
-Working knowledge of VT policies and procedures particularly those relating to financial, purchasing and research grant administration.
- Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Banner, Summit, MicroStrategy, Legacy Web Reports, or similar systems.
