Lawrence University, a nationally ranked private college of liberal
arts and sciences and conservatory of music, seeks a multi-faceted,
multi-talented Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to
support the institution’s goal to achieve inclusive excellence by
providing an environment that helps each student, faculty, staff
and community member reach their unique potential.
Job Responsibilities
The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has primary responsibility for providing leadership and administrative oversight for researching, developing, implementing, and maintaining a range of successful professional development trainings and student programming for supporting a campus climate that values and prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and antiracism. The Director connects the campus to opportunities related to transformational institutional change, representational diversity, a welcoming, safe, affirming, and accessible campus climate, and equity across the curricular and cocurricular mission of Lawrence University.
Reporting to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Director works to advance the diversity strategic plan and antiracism initiatives and uses evidence-based strategies in developing efforts to create and sustain a culture that embraces and promotes diversity and inclusion in the broadest sense. Emphasis is placed on the development of long-term strategies and collaborations designed to enhance college climate to increase the recruitment, matriculation, support, retention, and ultimate graduation of underrepresented faculty, staff and students. This position will interact with constituents, both internal and external, including students, faculty, administrators, state agency executives and officials, while leading and facilitating diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The Director will oversee the implementation of campus climate assessments, tracking university DEIA data, manage the bias response process, and mediate campus conflicts through data informed practices.

Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing DEI professional development and student programing in higher education, a public or private organization.
- Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with equivalent training and experience.
- Deep functional knowledge of DEI and conflict resolution best practices.
- Demonstrated success in developing cutting edge strategy and driving process improvements regarding diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with an ability to persuade and influence, and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment across all cultures and demographics.
- Experience administering campus climate surveys and using DEI data to inform decisions
- Strong analytical skills
- Must have successful completion of criminal record check,
driving record check and reference checks.
Preferred Qualification
- Ph.D. or J.D.
- Bi/multilingual
- Previous Human Resources experience.
- Professional diversity leadership certification (e.g. CDE, CDI)).
- Experience working with and coordinating a student
program
