JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice of Communication/General Manager of UIndyTV. The new faculty member will be a specialist in the department’s electronic media emphasis—specifically television. This is a full-time appointment beginning in August 2022.

As an Assistant Professor of Practice, the successful candidate will have faculty responsibilities that foster the expectation that s/he stays current in the industry. Required qualifications include experience working in television and an earned Master’s degree in Communication or a closely related field. Preference will be given to individuals who have previously taught television at the college or high school level.

The successful applicant will be able to teach the following courses:

• Studio Production;

• Field Production;

• Television Directing;

• Applied Television;

• Foundations of Television and Radio (to be co-taught with the GM of the university radio station);

• Other courses as discussed and agreed upon.

The Assistant Professor of Practice will teach and mentor students while overseeing operations of the television station, including, but not limited to, pre-production, production, post-production, live sports/event production, studio/station upkeep and repairs–and administrative duties, including budgeting and overseeing a television student management team, with which s/he will closely work.

Bringing special expertise to the department, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an applied scholarship agenda. Some examples may include supervising and mentoring student projects, developing new expertise in practices and processes, and consulting. More traditional scholarship, such as conference presentations and publications are also acceptable in this position. Service to the department (standard activities and others as appropriate) and to the university/community is expected.

Some weekends and evenings may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach Communication-related courses, such as: Studio Production, Field Production, Television Directing, Applied Television, Foundations of Television and Radio.
  • Maintain a research agenda - field research acceptable
  • Provide service to the department, university, city, and/or discipline
  • Remain current in the industry
  • Teach and mentor students while overseeing operations of the television stations, including but not limited to, pre-production, production, post-production, live sports/event production, studio/station upkeep and repairsand administrative duties, including budgeting and overseeing a television student management team
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree required
  • Previous experience teaching television at the college or high school level preferred
  • Some weekends and evenings may be required
