Carnegie Mellon University’s Finance Division is currently
searching for an Assistant Director of
Cost Analysis and Audit. Join our team and you will play a key role
by leading the Cost Analysis
department and providing expert advice to campus regarding
compliance with federal
regulations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who

The Assistant Director, Cost Analysis and Audit, will be
responsible for providing strong
guidance, direction and management support to Cost Analysis team
members. The individual
will also be responsible for staying current on changes in Federal,
State and other applicable
regulations and institutional policies and procedures impacting the
activities of the Cost Analysis
department. Specific areas of responsibility will include
F&A rates, sponsored project audits,
fringe benefit rates, and recharge centers.
Core responsibilities will include:
Manage and perform final review of the various F&A and
fringe benefit rates prior to submission
to the federal government;
Lead the federal rate negotiations with the Office of Naval
Research and Defense Contract
Audit Agency
Serve as a liaison with the CMU facilities team with respect to
space surveys for the purposes of
calculating F&A rates.
Oversight of the various audits, developing management responses
and corrective action plans,
and inform senior management and research departments of results,
as necessary.
Manage university recharge service center rate review and
approval process.
Manage university fringe benefit rate calculation.
Participate in regular policy reviews and updates for sponsored
projects and other institutional
policies affecting sponsored projects and/or F&A
expenses.
Lead a team of professional accountants, including management of
staff professional
development and performance reviews of the senior level team
members.
Other position responsibilities include:
Provide support to the Senior Director for Sponsored Projects
and Cost Analysis in all aspects
of department operations.
Engage with the Senior Director on special analyses and
communications, which will require the
ability to communicate with all levels of the university
community.
Help the Senior Director ensure accurate cost accounting
practices within the organization and
compliance with the Uniform Guidance across the university,
requiring the ability to understand
and interpret regulations and its impact on university policy and
procedure.
Engage within finance to support audits of the university,
especially those related to federal
sponsored awards and compliance with the Uniform Guidance.
Develop and/or review policies and guidelines to support
compliance as well as provide the
university with clear and concise direction.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation
preferred.
10+ years of experience in cost analysis and accounting
required.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience
in a university setting.
