Position Title Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator FLSA Exempt Contract Length 12 months Class Summary
Responsible for providing instruction within the appropriate department/program. Programs include potential assignments in the Associate Degree in Nursing program, Vocational Nursing program, and any additional programs in the COM Nursing Department. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation. Serves on College committees as needed and assigned. Participate in student orientation, instructional, and advisement activities as needed and assigned. Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing. Must have a current Texas RN license or eligible for Texas licensure. Consistent active work experience within the past three (3) years in the nursing field required. Preferred Education/Training/Experience
Doctoral Degree in Nursing. One (1) year of teaching experience in a community college setting. Minimum Knowledge & Skills
- Principles and practices of teaching;
- Training techniques;
- Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the specific course and program area;
- Knowledge of student engagement techniques;
- Record keeping procedures.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Preferred Knowledge & Skills
N/A Job Duties
· Accountable for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of the vocational nursing education program.
· Collaborates with the Nursing Program Clinical Coordinator to maintain affiliation agreements with appropriate clinical sites.
· Maintains and ongoing relationship with the community and clinical affiliating agencies.
· Assists the Director of Nursing with academic & clinical planning of VN faculty workload.
· Teaches theory and clinical components, advises, and evaluates program outcomes
· Recruits and retains students for the program
· Is a member of the Nursing Department curriculum committee.
· Leads VN faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the VN curriculum.
· Provides guidance to students while being sensitive to the needs of students from a diverse population
· Participates in the assessment activities of the program and department
· Attends program and department faculty meetings
· Continues professional development in scholarship, teaching, and community service
· Serves on program, department, and college committees
· Participates in program, department, and college events
· Performs responsibilities specified in the Nursing Faculty Handbook in a timely manner
· Collaborates with administrative assistant to ensure completion of annual updates of Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator faculty files specific to clinical readiness documentation
· Coordinates tracking of student progression
· Collaborates with the Vocational Nursing Program Academic Advisor(s) to support applicants/candidates through the application process and maintains records
· Assists in the preparation of accreditation materials and accreditation processes
· Oversees and distributes textbook vendor list
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Must be licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of Texas. Physical Requirements
-May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office, travel to clinical assignments. Work with students, staff, and patients during clinical teaching experience. Occasional irregular hours or weekend work.
-Clinical shifts will be for a period of 12 hours.
-Physical: High physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist in patient care/clinical teaching situations, or demonstrate ability to perform tasks successfully. Possible exposure to communicable diseases through patient care clinical experience. Occasionally assist in two-person lifting of patients. Identifying specific weights lifted in a transfer is difficult because it is dependent upon the amount of assistance the patient is able to offer.
