Job Summary:
To manage minor renovations/interior upfit projects that are assigned including scope development, design, cost estimating, and construction oversight. Provide interior design assistance on other improvement projects that occur across campus. Develop and maintain campus standards for finishes and furniture to ensure the Furman brand is appropriately applied and interior spaces are consistent and functional across campus.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

1. Manages assigned projects from conceptual idea through completion.

2. Meets with campus partners to determine needs and preferences, develops finish options and works with campus partner and project manager to finalize selections that meet project goals.

3. Coordinates interior upfit work as needed on other projects including meeting with departments, developing scope, estimating costs, scheduling and managing installation.

4. Develops and maintains finish standards for offices and other spaces across campus that are in concert with the colors and brand standards of the university. Maintains collection of interior design resources and samples as needed.

5. Develop and maintains furniture standards for the campus (interior and exterior). Manages the procurement process for furniture purchased across campus.

6. Work in partnership with University Communications and the Brand and Licensing Review Board to maintain campus standards for interior and exterior signage.

7. Completes other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

8. Ensures that all designs meet all local and national building codes.

9. Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.

10. Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.

11. Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.

Relationships:

Daily contact with members of own work unit, immediate supervisor, and all departments on the campus to plan, coordinate, solve problems and present information and suggestions related to mutual goals.

Frequent contact with University Communications department and the Brand and Licensing Review Board to ensure Furman brand standards are understood and applied across campus.

Responsibility for Final Decisions:

Reviews work to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines.

Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.

Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck.

Reports To: Director of Capital Construction

Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.

Education/Skill Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Interior Design preferred

Minimum of 2 years Interior Design Experience in a commercial setting required

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction and building design standards.

Experience utilizing Auto Cad and SketchUp preferred

Work Conditions:

Work is performed in usual office conditions and on active construction sites.

Exposure to machinery and dust.
