Department Summary
The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. The department has approximately 250 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competitions with other universities & colleges.
Position Summary
The Trades Maintenance Worker 1 works as part of a team, performing a wide variety of routine & semiskilled work assisting other skilled trades' people in the upkeep and maintenance of athletic department facilities. Tasks vary. They include but are not limited to - plumbing, carpentry, painting, building maintenance & event support. Primary responsibility will be Autzen Stadium, Casanova Center, Moshofsky, and PK Park. As events arise may be assigned work at Hayward Field, Jane Sanders Stadium, Jaqua Center, and McArthur Court or as assigned by the supervisor. Work includes general labor, painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment maintenance/repair, routine electrical work that does not require a license, the care of sports surfaces, and tasks assigned by the supervisor. Work tasks are performed both inside the facilities and outside on the grounds/fields/parking lots and spectator seating areas.

This position is also part of the Essential Services group required to safely respond during emergency or unusual circumstances. This position works closely with other staff members, facility occupants, users, and visitors to complete tasks.

This position requires the ability to work outside in inclement weather as well as work nights and weekends. Position requires ascending and descending stairs and working at heights. This position requires the willingness to work in an environment containing dust, odors, and high levels of noise and occasionally working in and around chemicals and caustic compounds, which may require the use of personal protection devices such as facemasks and rubber gloves. This position also requires the willingness to work from ladders, scaffolds, scissor lifts, and other aboveground locations such as roofs.

Prolonged physical labor, walking, bending, climbing, and stooping are requirements of this position. This position requires the ability to effectively provide customer service to the public; this includes being well-groomed and communicating effectively with tact and courtesy. The person in this position will need the ability to operate and respond to a 2-way radio.

Additional Expectations of the Position
  • Ability to obtain UO driver's certification within 90 days of employment and maintain it throughout employment with the Athletic Department.
  • Ability to obtain UO forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift certification within 6 months of employment.
  • The normal shift for this position is Sunday - Thursday, 8 am-4:30 pm. However, at times this position will require a flexible schedule with varying hours.
    Minimum Requirements
  • The equivalent combination of one year of facility and grounds maintenance experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with custodial responsibilities/skills for large event clean-up.
  • University of Oregon Athletics or similar Event experience supporting large events (football)*.
  • Work history showing three (3) consecutive years of facilities maintenance work experience, custodial/event setup in Higher Education, medical facility or large manufacturing facility, or similar.
