The TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally-funded program at CSU Pueblo with the primary purpose of assisting individuals who are low-income and/or potential first-generation college students in gaining access to higher education. Employment is contingent upon grant renewal from the Department of Education and the successful meeting of the grant objectives.
Description of Job
The individual in this grant-funded, in-person* position, is
responsible for conducting the day-to-day operations of the TRIO
EOC office currently located in Colorado Springs. In-person
support may also be required at the host institution’s other
satellite offices. Site coordinators are responsible for
assisting clients, records management, supervision of work study
employees and database management as necessary. Site
coordinators are also responsible for conducting in-person outreach
to various area colleges and universities, community agencies, and
high schools with the purpose of disseminating information about
college and primarily identifying college-ready first generation
and low income participants for the program. Routine travel
within Colorado Springs and other locations within the program’s
service area is required. The Colorado Springs Site
Coordinator is responsible for recruiting a minimum of 350 eligible
participants per year, contacting a minimum of 5 community
organizations monthly in order to identify potential EOC eligible
participants, and conducting a minimum of 1 in-person outreach
event per month. This position is not eligible for
alternative work arrangements (AWA) or remote work**. Work schedule
is based upon program needs, may require nights and weekends, and
may change as needed.
*In-person refers to physical presence required
**Remote work may be required as directed by host institution or
site location because of a national or state health crisis.
In this situation, the site coordinator will follow the
mandates of their main site/campus.
***This is a grant-funded position funded through a renewable
Department of Education grant***
Primary Duties
Provide in-person services to program participants including:
- providing information about college, and careers;
- assistance in applying for college admissions, student financial aid and scholarships;
- referrals to college readiness and GED programs and community agencies;
- other assistance as necessary to facilitate college enrollment and funding
Perform client intakes, determine applicant eligibility, select
participants, assess services needed to achieve educational goals,
and develop participant service plans.
Enter information about participants and services provided into
database and maintain hard copy files for all participants,
ensuring participant records are complete and in order.
Complete monthly error checks and file audits.
Facilitate completion of the Annual Performance Report (APR).
Plan and implement community outreach in assigned service area.
This includes individual and group meetings, representing the
program at events, and conducting workshops for potential
participants, parents and staff members of community organizations,
secondary and postsecondary institutions.
Manage day-to-day operations of satellite office. This includes
coordination with host institution, responding to inquiries,
scheduling appointments and supervising any student
employees.
Track participant progress in completing critical tasks identified
in the participant service plan, including enrollment of
participants in postsecondary education.
Provide zoom or phone services to participants unable to physically
access site/campus for services.
Ancillary Duties
Attend professional development conferences and training.

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Willing and able to travel as necessary to complete position duties
- Knowledge of college admissions & financial aid processes
- Knowledge of barriers encountered by first-generation and low-income students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Behavior/Social Science, Education, Student Services or related discipline
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and empathy with low-income and first-generation students and their parents
- Familiarity with area community agencies and high schools
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Ability to utilize Zoom and other on-line communication platforms
- Two years’ experience working directly with college admissions or financial aid
- Knowledge and experience with veterans educational benefits issues
- Experience marketing services to low-income individuals
Condition of Employment
