Job Description Summary
The Building Engineer, Rinker Campus is a non-exempt, full-time staff position which assist the Facilities Management department. This position is located at the Irvine Rinker Campus.
This position has on-call rotation shifts, with a work schedule of Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Responsibilities
The Building Engineer is responsible for operation, replacement, repair and maintenance of building related mechanical, electrical, control systems, plumbing, air handling units, pumps, and other building systems at the Rinker Health Science Campus. The Engineer reviews and responds to repair request submitted by the campus community, providing quality and accurate service.
The incumbent prepares necessary paperwork for purchase request, work order completions, project planning and etc. This position assist with the maintenance and operation of non-campus buildings adjacent to Rinker as necessary. They perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
The offer of employment for the final candidate is contingent upon satisfactory completion of and outcomes of a criminal background screening, DMV Driving clearance.

Required Qualifications
- Five years of field experience in one or more of the mechanical trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.
- Demonstrated mechanical/electrical/plumbing aptitude, corroborated by work history.
- Proficiency in oral/written English language skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of campus administration/faculty/staff/students/guests.
- Technical skills to use information and building control systems needed for the position.
- Demonstrated ability to work alone and also work with others in a professional manner.
- Knowledge of Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Construction, Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ) codes, and standards associated with the modification and maintenance of facilities.
- Proven knowledge of building control systems.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize competing requests.
- Knowledge of maintenance service programs.
- Ability to provide responsive and quality customer service.
- Ability to prepare work orders, specifications, material, and staffing estimates.
- Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of individuals both inside and outside and inside the university.
- Ability to learn and interpret university policies and procedures.
- Trade School Certificate, Apprenticeship completion or Military training in related mechanical fields.
- Familiarity with building trades, e.g., carpentry, painting, drywall repair, etc.
- Familiarity with building automation software.
