JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Dean of Graduate School of Education (GSE) is a visionary and collaborative leader who assists the Dean in providing overall leadership and management for the School across multiple locations including Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, and online. The Associate Dean also works closely with the Dean in undertaking administrative duties such as academic quality assurance, academic assessment, and accreditation, student retention, and persistence and management of academic affairs. In addition, the Associate Dean will support the Dean in ensuring relevant and aligned curriculum, overall instructional quality, and faculty professional development. The Associate Dean maintains scholarly productivity and is committed to actions aligned with the Touro values of integrity inclusivity equity and respect.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works collaboratively with Program chairs, faculty, and staff for overall academic program quality
  • Maintains knowledge of current curricula assessment and effective teaching methodologies utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods, instructional and assistive technologies, and educational resources to ensure overall curricular and instructional quality that engenders educational equity and access
  • Maintain knowledge of and assists with activities related to quality assurance, academic program evaluation, continuous improvement state approval of academic programs, and national accreditation
  • Monitors candidates’ academic progress and learning outcomes through a lens of educational equity to inform overall advisement
  • Manages course scheduling and assists with academic and co-curricular calendar development
  • Assists in recruiting, training, developing, and evaluating faculty and support staff to meet the needs of programs
  • Guides and mentors all faculty, instructors, and staff under supervision
  • Supports and assists with the development and nurturing of partnerships with P-12 schools/districts and other entities
  • Assists in the development and implementation of strategic plans and other GSE/Touro initiatives
  • Maintains a current record of scholarly activities and publications as well as professional service
  • Engages in successful grant writing and management
  • Upholds the missions and values of Touro and the GSE
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education/ Experience

  • Earned doctorate relevant to one or more of the GSE academic programs
  • Eligible for the rank of Associate or Full Professor
  • Five or more years of experience in higher education with evidence of formal leadership as program/department chair or related function to include faculty supervision and evaluation
  • Successful experience in assessment and data use at both the classroom and academic unit levels with evidence of positive learning and development for diverse groups of students
  • Successful college-level teaching experience face-to-face and online (course evaluations to be submitted)
  • Experience in course and program design
  • Successful P-12 classroom teaching experience working with diverse students three or more years
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and sustaining education/pedagogy
  • Strong expertise in urban education
  • Evidence of successful grant writing and management
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity

Preferred Education/ Experience

  • Evidence of success as an educator preparer at the graduate level
  • Demonstrated evidence of establishing and sustaining partnerships with P-12 schools or other professional entities
  • Evidence of successful grant award and management for educator preparation
  • Successful experience leading accreditation efforts

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Excellent communication teaching and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums (including social media)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Proficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, Zoom, and other digital media

Travel

  • Some travel to Touro University GSE sites New York City including occasional evenings
