Job Summary
As a member of the library faculty, this position partners with university faculty in the arts and humanities disciplines to promote information and visual/data literacy through instruction, creation of resources (tutorials, LibGuides, etc.), and research support. This 12-month, continuing (non-tenured) faculty appointment reports to the Director of Research & Instruction Services (RIS), and contributes to a team environment. As a part of the RIS team, this position also provides general research assistance and work to enhance user experience and engagement. Work hours are generally 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work schedule may be adjusted with the approval of the Director of Research and Instruction.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of the library’s databases, search interfaces, and other resources to effectively meet users’ information needs.
  2. Knowledge of the philosophy and practice of librarianship
  3. Creativity to develop, implement, and manage library programs and services
  4. Excellent communication skills: verbal/oral and in writing
  5. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with colleagues, faculty, students, staff, and university stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a terminal degree in a comparable field from an accredited institution by time of appointment.
  2. Ability to work closely and effectively with students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and experience
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Experience searching relevant databases
  5. Experience providing in-person or online reference service and instruction
  6. Knowledge of current web, instructional, and productivity technologies (e.g. LibGuides, Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting, D2L, Microsoft Office)
  7. Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated skill in interdisciplinary services such as digital media production, digital scholarship, or data services. 
  2. Demonstrated skill with tutorial creation
  3. Applicable subject knowledge (degree, coursework, work/volunteer experience)
