Job Summary
As a member of the library faculty, this position partners with
university faculty in the arts and humanities disciplines to
promote information and visual/data literacy through instruction,
creation of resources (tutorials, LibGuides, etc.), and research
support. This 12-month, continuing (non-tenured) faculty
appointment reports to the Director of Research & Instruction
Services (RIS), and contributes to a team environment. As a part of
the RIS team, this position also provides general
research assistance and work to enhance user experience and
engagement. Work hours are generally 8:00-4:30 Monday through
Friday. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work
schedule may be adjusted with the approval of the Director of
Research and Instruction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the library’s databases, search interfaces, and other resources to effectively meet users’ information needs.
- Knowledge of the philosophy and practice of librarianship
- Creativity to develop, implement, and manage library programs and services
- Excellent communication skills: verbal/oral and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with colleagues, faculty, students, staff, and university stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a terminal degree in a comparable field from an accredited institution by time of appointment.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience searching relevant databases
- Experience providing in-person or online reference service and instruction
- Knowledge of current web, instructional, and productivity technologies (e.g. LibGuides, Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting, D2L, Microsoft Office)
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated skill in interdisciplinary services such as digital media production, digital scholarship, or data services.
- Demonstrated skill with tutorial creation
- Applicable subject knowledge (degree, coursework, work/volunteer experience)
