The Department of Nursing offers an undergraduate program within the nursing discipline and is a fully accredited member of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing. The four-year Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing (BS), also termed “traditional pre-licensure” program, is a 68- credit major preparing caring professional clinicians for practice in contemporary health care settings. Additionally, SCSU offers an RN to BS completion program, which is fully online and is completed in 12 months. SCSU is also in the program development stages for graduate nursing education. The graduate education degree will consist of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, with the capability for students to obtain national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Educational and clinical experiences prepare graduates to practice in a culturally diverse, rapidly changing, global society. SCSU’s nursing programs emphasize critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgement to appropriately address the needs of individuals, families, communities, and populations throughout all stages of life.

The Department of Nursing Science offers a state-of-the art Simulation Lab, which has been named the Jim and Ann Marie Maciej Nursing Education Suite in recognition of their generous financial support.

Faculty members are expected to:
  • Demonstrate ability to teach in person didactic and clinical nursing courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate nursing students.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to adjunct clinical faculty.
  • Participate in strategic planning, programmatic development, and curriculum review.
  • Participate in accreditation, governance, and regulatory review processes of the Department.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of Department and community health agencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution or enrolled in a doctoral degree program with capacity of degree conferral within one year of hire date
  • Current and unencumbered RN licensure in the state of Minnesota or able to obtain Minnesota licensure
  • Evidence of applied clinical effectiveness in specialty area and/or certification, specifically mental health/substance use disorder
  • Evidence of experience in teaching in specialty area, mental health, public health or substance use disorder
  • Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Nursing (PhD, DNP) or Doctorate of Education (EdD)
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (CNP) nationally certified with eligibility for licensure in the State of Minnesota
  • Demonstrated success in teaching in a specialty area in an accredited baccalaureate nursing program
  • Experience with nursing simulation
  • Experience with on-line teaching

The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a professional goal to become an outstanding teacher-scholar through the use of research-based, best-practices pedagogy.
