Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an hourly Payroll Specialist to join our team! Typical Duties:
- Perform daily payroll department functions;
- Review personnel actions and payroll documents for employees for completeness and appropriateness in accordance with FLSA;
- Manage payroll audits using ARMICS;
- Process supplemental payrolls and assist with semi-monthly payrolls;
- Reconcile overpayments and manage correspondences with collection agency;
- Research employee time and attendance data in RealTime and reconcile any outstanding issue.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, with employees of various levels within the University;
- General bookkeeping, mathematical skills, ability to operate 10-key calculator efficiently.;
- Ability to use office automation, word processing, etc., software;
- Ability to provide quality customer service in a professional manner;
- Ability to work independently and as a team player;
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, with employees of various levels within the University, and with tax officials from federal and state agencies;
- Strong mathematical/accounting skills with reconciliation knowledge;
- Ability to use office automation, word processing, etc., software;
- Ability to provide quality customer service in a professional manner;
- Ability to work independently and as a team player;
- Extensive payroll processing knowledge and experience;
- Knowledge of state and University payroll and reporting policies;
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an undergraduate degree with emphasis in accounting or business administration or combination of college and equivalent experience;
- Certified Payroll Professional preferred;
- Extensive working experience in a payroll operation preferred;
- Extensive experience with operational aspects of automated payroll processing system.
