    The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible for managing, overseeing, planning, and/or collaborating in a variety of academic matters and initiatives in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management. The Associate Dean is the leader and administrative head of the Academic Affairs Office and addresses a broad set of faculty and curricular processes including academic policy formulation and recommendation; academic standards; faculty searches, intercessional management and promotion & tenure; academic program development; accreditation; program reviews; and assessment of academic programs. The Associate Dean provides executive-level oversight and leadership to academic support services including the Office of Institutional Research, the E-Learning Support Office, the D'Azzo Research Library, faculty personnel program management, and the Graduate School's model fabrication shop.


The Associate Dean interacts with faculty on academic matters through collegiate committees and through their respective department heads. The Associate Dean works closely with and answers directly to the Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering and Management on all issues related to academic affairs. The Incumbent of this position is expected to practice, advocate, and promote the highest of standards for scholarship, academic achievement, honesty, and professional integrity.

The Associate Dean provides strong leadership in all aspects of academic affairs where the major duties and responsibilities for the incumbent include, but are not limited to:


Accreditation:

    AFIT's Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission and institutional contact for ABET in coordination with AFIT's Chief Academic Officer. Accreditation processes including comprehensive and specialized reviews and maintaining AFIT's good standing with its accreditation bodies; responsible for arranging payment for these services working with the EN resource advisors.


Academic Mission:

    Academic program development, assessment/effectiveness, program review, and portfolio review. Leadership for new academic and educational strategies, including multi-departmental and multi-school initiatives. Developing, recommending, enforcing and interpreting academic rules, policies, and procedures. Drafting reports related to the scope, effectiveness, and outcomes of EN academic programs to support internal objectives or respond to external queries. Representing the Dean in all areas involving academic programs and faculty matters to both internal and external audiences. Brokering cooperative education agreements for EN and AFIT approval.

Institutional Support and Outreach:

    EN and AFIT Strategic planning support. Represents the Graduate School and AFIT within the Department of Defense and at national and international conferences and meetings.


Management:

    Supervises directors/managers of the support functions under the Academic Affairs Office. Advance the institutionalization of diversity, equity, and inclusion to achieve AFIT's academic mission. Develops, publishes, and maintains administrative processes and guidance related to the administration of Graduate School faculty personnel programs. Manages budgets for the Academic Affairs Office.
