The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for a tenured associate or full professor and department chair to lead their CACREP-accredited programs toward innovation and growth beginning Fall 2022. We may consider candidates for a January 2023 start date, as well. Tenure will be awarded at the point of hire for qualified candidates.

The Department of Counselor Education is comprised of active and engaged faculty and students across three concentrations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling. Responsibilities include leading all departmental business as chair, teaching two graduate courses each semester, advising graduate students, pursuing research and scholarly interests, and engaging in university and professional service.

Applicants with a School Counseling background, in particular, are encouraged to apply, though candidates with disciplinary backgrounds in any of the three concentration areas (Clinical Mental Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, or School Counseling) will be considered.

The targeted starting date for this position is Fall 2022 on our Gorham Campus, though a January 2023 start date may be possible. This is an on campus, in-person teaching position with opportunities to teach in online delivery modalities.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education or a related field
  • Expertise in one of the specialty areas offered in the department
  • Demonstrated record of effective leadership of a program, department, or other academic unit
  • Demonstrated record of successful teaching and advising, research, and service
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a CACREP-accredited program as a faculty member or student
  • School Counseling expertise
  • Experience teaching or leading online course delivery
