This position will assist the Executive Director in increasing the access, retention and success of minoritized student populations via development, implementation and assessment of relevant programs, initiatives and events specifically for Black and Latinx/Hispanic student populations. Other duties include assisting in the coordination of campus wide programs and that promote the celebration of Black and Latinx/Hispanic cultures and lived experiences, advising student groups; serving on university committees that address the academic success and cultural well-being of these student populations, develop and implement campus wide diversity seminars, training, and workshops that raise the cultural awareness and provides campus constituents with the skill sets to effectively engage and focus on these student populations, as well as promote a campus culture of inclusion, respect, and equity.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in ethnic studies, psychology, sociology, cultural studies, higher education, or related field. Considerable experience working effectively with diverse student populations, while utilizing student development tenets in the manner consistent with the position’s responsibilities. Considerable knowledge of issues relating to historically underrepresented and marginalized communities specifically Black and Latinx student communities. Considerable knowledge of theory and practice of diversity and inclusion, cultural awareness and student development within the context of racial and ethnic identities as they apply within higher education. Some knowledge of training, conflict resolution, and mediation methods. Demonstrated ability and experience in building partnerships with university and community constituents. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and provide diversity and cultural competency trainings. Ability to establish program priorities; monitor progress toward achieving program goals; and conduct assessment to evaluate program effectiveness. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to provide direction in promoting and maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and external constituencies. Demonstrated success in developing programs and services that promote retention and provide support for students of under served, historically underrepresented and/or marginalized students. Considerable experience advising students and student organizations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Several years of progressive responsibilities within student or multicultural affairs at a public or private institution of higher learning.
