This position is responsible for all activities related to
Prospect Development and Data Management – identify and evaluate
prospects, provide research reports and briefings, maintain
prospect management system, provide business intelligence to the
development department, data enrichment, and data management in
conjunction with Old Dominion University’s fundraising goals and
initiatives. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President
of Advancement Operations.
Prospect Research: The Assistant Director
analyzes, evaluates and distributes information critical to
securing major gifts. This includes identifying and researching
prospects, fulfilling profile and other prospect tracking report
requests.
Data Management: responsible for integrity and
upkeep of all data. In addition, identifying and selecting prospect
screening vendors, research tools and, data enrichment services
that facilitate data segmentation for rating purposes.
Database: onboarding and ongoing training of all
aspects of moves management to the gift officers in the CRM
database.
Prospect Management: tracking gift officer
activities, generate metrics, and maintain gift officer portfolios.
Provide portfolio review services to gift officers. Oversee
training of gift officers in prospect management protocols. Direct
the building of strong strategic partnerships with development
colleagues across the University.
Analytics: using analytic tools to analyze
prospect and donor constituencies and forecast their behavior
through data bench-marking, modeling and analytics. Develop a
strategic partnership with Information Technology (IT) to develop
new tools and reports that serve prospect and business intelligence
needs of the department. Design and develop studies and reports,
using research and screening tools, on Old Dominion University
prospect constituencies, including analysis of potential for giving
of various alumni for key projects. Build peer institution
relationships to discuss best practices in the field.
Budgets: managing budgets of the research
office.
Management: managing Research Analyst position
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with experience in the field of research and analytics equivalent to a Master’s degree. Experience in prospect research, grants research or market/business research. Analytical skills to assess practices and procedures, anticipate problems, formulate logical conclusions, develop alternative solutions, make recommendations and implement changes.
Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively through strong interpersonal skills; exceptional and succinct writing/reporting abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and independently and be able to adapt to shifting priorities in a deadline driven environment. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information in a discretionary manner. Ability to manage and motivate staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong quantitative skills. Knowledge of statistical software packages such as SPSS. Knowledge and understanding of current trends in philanthropy. Experience analyzing complex financial and business documents including SEC reports. Previous experience working in a fundraising office.
