Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,276 per month

Full classification Salary Range: $3,276 - $5,148 per month
  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, provides moderate to complex clerical support to the Department Chair, Graduate Coordinator, and Biotechnology Program coordinator. The position has direct contact with faculty, students, potential students, parents and other campus staff, agency representatives and members of the community.

Key Qualifications
  • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and standard practices, including principles of customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office systems and ability to use office technology, equipment, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications).
  • Working knowledge of budget practices and procedures.
  • Skill/Ability to:
    • Manage multiple clerical tasks and easily prioritize needs.
    • Engage in technology training support and development to support departmental needs.
    • Perform standard computations with minimal errors.
    • Learn, independently interpret and apply complex policies and procedures and identify deviations from policy; understand, interpret, and communicate procedures, policies, information, ideas and instructions.
    • Work effectively with faculty, students and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical solutions.
    • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
    • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing and draft and compose correspondence.
    • Ability to create and maintain program records and provide data for review.
    • Serve as a resource to students, staff and the community in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information concerning campus news and events.

Education and Experience
  • Completion of a high school program or its equivalent
  • Two years of recent clerical experience in an office environment
