The Office of Advising Administration and Academic Partnership at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Student Success Advisor (full-time, 12 month) position. The Student Success Advisor will work with first-year students serving as a member of the advising team in the assigned academic college and the Center for Advising Administration and Academic Partnerships. The Success Advisor will coordinate student engagement and success programs in the college to include the Early Alert Response System and other programs for first-year students. The position is also responsible for developing retention initiatives that will assist all students in achieving academic success. The advisor is expected to teach two sections of the University 110 Academic Success course each spring semester. The individual is responsible for the College at campus functions such as Monarch Orientation, as well as coordinating an managing programs which require inter-departmental collaboration
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree. Experience in counseling and advising students in academic difficulty. Prior advising/counseling experience. Experience with group counseling and teaching. Excellent inter-personal skills, including public speaking. Strong written communication skills. Knowledge of counseling and student development theory. Knowledge of testing instruments including intelligence tests, aptitude tests, achievement tests, interest tests, and personality tests. General working knowledge of academic vocabulary and requirements. Effective organizational skills with versatility and problem-solving skills are a must.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling, public administration, or higher education. Prior advising/counseling experience in a college or University setting.
