The Assessment Specialist provides expertise in designing assessments and in evaluating and interpreting assessment data to program managers and faculty within the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret assessment data to identify longitudinal trends and cross-sectional patterns in student learning outcomes and/or program data.
  • Assist with the collection, management, analysis and reporting of assessment data to support program improvement efforts.
  • Engage in construction of data charts and graphics in support of report writing and presentations.
  • Manage curriculum mapping data entry, report generation and coordination with respective system vendors.
  • Upload curriculum mapping to a curriculum inventory database and generate validation reports.
  • Communicate complex assessment data in clear, actionable ways to program leadership.

Education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in learning assessment, educational psychometrics, higher education, instructional design, statistics, or a related field is preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Experience in using learning or assessment management systems and data visualization software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, SAS, R, Qualtrics, Google Forms, Tableau, Mural).
  • Training and experience in statistical analysis required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a higher education environment or working in a similar capacity.
  • Experience with development of assessment instruments (e.g., rubrics, checklists, exams/quizzes, attitudinal measures, observational evaluations, surveys, etc.).
  • Experience working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Demonstrated skill in learning assessment design, database management and data analytics.
  • Strong analytical and creative thinking skills.
