Nationally ranked among US News & World Report's Best Education Graduate Schools, Rutgers Graduate School of Education is part of New Jersey's flagship public university. Committed to Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick welcomes applications for its inaugural cohort of Social Justice in Education Research Post-Doctoral Fellows. We seek two colleagues whose research focuses on advancing diversity, access, and social justice in education and society. We are particularly interested in scholars with a commitment to social justice research with a focus in at least one of our three thematic areas (i.e., Diversity, Equity, & Social Justice; STEM in Education, and Effective Teaching and Learning).

Post-Doctoral Fellows Program Description

The GSE Social Justice in Education Research Post-Doctoral Fellows program is intended to support fellows in the areas of research and teaching, with a specific focus on preparing scholars of color to seek and secure tenure-track faculty positions at research universities. The Program will support fellows to strengthen their independent social justice in education research and enhance their publication record while also being exposed to all aspects of the faculty experience at an Association of American Universities (AAU). Under the guidance of the Associate Dean for Research, fellows will be mentored by senior faculty. Fellows will teach (one course in year one and two courses per year thereafter) and engage in service activities within the Rutgers GSE.

Fellows will receive a competitive annual salary with health insurance, support towards moving expenses, technology, and research-related expenses. Additional support includes access to office space, library privileges, professional development opportunities, and a dedicated mentor.

Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in meetings and workshops structured for the purposes of networking, social interaction, and supporting professional development. Post-Doctoral Fellows will be affiliated with one of three departments in the Graduate School of Education (Educational Psychology, Learning & Teaching, and Educational Theory, Policy, & Administration). The length of fellowships is for two years, with the option to renew for a third year, if deemed appropriate.

Applicants must have completed a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited university no later than June 30, 2022 and within three years of the start date of their appointment at Rutgers University (i.e. no earlier than August 31, 2019 for appointments beginning September 1, 2022). Fellows will be selected on the basis of scholarly promise and their potential to add to the diversity of the Rutgers community and to be successful in a tenure-track position at an AAU Research University. Fellows are expected to participate in annual cohort meetings and events, attend departmental meetings and events, and participate in mentoring activities associated with the Fellowship.

Only complete applications submitted electronically through the official Rutgers Human Resources Online Application System will be considered. Review of applications will start May 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled
