Assistant Vice President, Student Affairs

Class Description

Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs serves on the Provost’s Leadership Team to support activities relating to professional development, strategic enrollment, and student achievement and success at the Community College of Baltimore County. Among the primary areas of the Assistant Vice President Student Affairs is support for the academic and career advising, testing and evaluation, retention and transfer services, disability programs and services, college and community outreach, student conduct, student life,  intercultural engagement, and student achievement and success efforts of the College. In addition, the Assistant Vice President Student Affairs collaborates closely with other members of the college’s leadership teams, including College Life, Instruction, and Enrollment Management Services.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.

Minimum Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel Administration, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Experience evaluating successful programming in collaboration with academic and student affairs areas of the college, including enrollment management initiatives.
  • Eight (8) years in a progressive student affairs leadership role at an institution of higher education, including three (3) years at the dean’s level or above.
  • Demonstrated success with student development, leadership efforts and campus-based student clubs and organizations.
  • Experience with current and emerging technology solutions related to retention, assessment, advising and/or career counseling, including expertise with enrollment management systems and web-based recruitment tools.
  • Experience with Student Information Systems such as Banner and implementing a new CRM or ERP preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Supports and informs all functions of the Offices of Student Development and College Life in close collaboration with the Dean of Student Development and the Dean of College Life.
  2. Assesses effectiveness of enrollment initiatives and activities. Making appropriate adjustments to remain continuously proactive and responsive to external forces and the College's needs. Analyzes the development and effectiveness of student affairs policies and procedures and makes recommendations to the Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.
  3. Leads efforts to determine the causes of attrition and the factors that promote and increase student persistence and completion; Plans, develops, implements, and assesses programs that support educational experiences which enrich the academic environment and promote student progress toward attainment of credentials in programs of study.
  4. Maintains memberships and participate in appropriate professional organizations.
  5. Serves on division and college-wide committees as requested.
  6. Represents and act on behalf of the Vice President of Student Affairs, as assigned.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. programs and policies including development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of enrollment management goals, objectives, and activities. 
  2. Collaborates across the organization to enhance enrollment and support services and to provide college-wide coordination and support to the overall student experience.
  3. Develops programs and initiatives to appropriately engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni in enrollment and success efforts.
  4. Identifies opportunities to incent positive student behaviors across all student populations.
  5. Collaborates with marketing department to create, implement, and evaluate marketing communications in support of enrollment initiatives.
  6. Collaborates with institutional advancement staff to continually scan and respond to the internal and external environment to advance the college's standing, effectiveness, and reputation as it relates to enrollment management.
  7. Builds and maintains mutually beneficial partnerships with community high schools and 4-year institutions.
  8. Compiles a comprehensive student affairs strategic action plan that is seamlessly integrated with instruction and student achievement and success priorities.
  9. Serves as a key leader in promoting practices to maximize enrollment management outcomes, through collaborative processes to enhance policies, technology, and resources necessary to achieve enrollment goals.
  10. Interprets state/federal regulations and College policies and procedures to ensure compliance with related program, state, and federal rules, laws, and regulations.
  11. Ensures the provision of high quality, customer-oriented service and support in enrollment services and processes.
