Job Summary

The position of gallery assistant, with its many components, requires clear focus and close attention to the needs of the visitors to the Gallery. The position demands strong communication skills, energy, patience, and a self-motivation. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate strong commitment to quality control and the superior representation and care of the Gallery and its holdings in interacting with the staff and leadership of the Hutchins Center, Harvard University faculty and Harvard Art Museums colleagues, gallery visitors, VIP guests, patrons, collectors, artists, contractors, interns, volunteers, and the information technology and security teams at Harvard.

Position Description

Assist with daily operations of the gallery, especially the physical reception area, to implement the visitor services strategy of the gallery’s director.

Assist director and Hutchins Center events team with events and other gallery programming.

Schedule and supervises support workers, as needed, including student interns, temps, independent contractors, and security.

Ensure that all audio and video in the gallery and reception area re in working order.

Implement security procedures and work closely with Securitas. Have knowledge of security systems.

Maintain a working knowledge of the exhibitions for the general public and other visitors.

Assist Hutchins Center events team to maintain digital content and social media presence.
