Position Information

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students, the Director of the Office of Student Life (OSL) provides leadership and administration of the Office of Student Life, including student clubs and organizations, Greek Life, and student leadership programs. The incumbent will supervise staff, manage day to day operations, and coordinate strategic planning efforts, goal setting processes, and develop and implement assessment of co-curricular programs that promote student learning, leadership, career readiness, retention, and persistence. The Director of the Office of Student Life will lead courses of action, develop and implement solutions that increase student engagement on a diverse commuter campus. Additionally, the Director will strategically align the OSL with the university strategic plan. The incumbent oversees the recognition and registration process for student organizations on campus and the development and implementation of accessible trainings, workshops, and programming for student organizations and faculty and staff advisors regarding Division and University procedures. The Director also serves as a main point of contact for the the Time, Place & Manner policy as it relates to events and programs by student organizations. This position will work collaboratively with a wide variety of administrative and academic departments across the university community to promote programs which compliments students' academic experience. The employee will supervise other professionals and support student assistants and student volunteers.

The incumbent will be responsible for designing and implementing the vision of an inclusive and engaging student community through programming and innovative student leadership. This position will collaborate with Associated Students Inc., The Loker Student Union, the Multicultural Resource Centers, the Women's Resource Center, University Housing, Basic Needs, Student Health Psychological Services, Student disAbility Resource Center, and the Center for Advocacy, and Prevention and Education (CAPE).

Qualifications

Required Experience: Combination of five to eight 5-8 years of professional related experience in Student life with 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree

    Preferred Qualifications: Masters in Higher Education, Leadership, Counseling or Counseling Psychology; Juris Doctorate, or closely related field.

    55% Organization and Development:
  • Lead, manage, create, and oversee a comprehensive student life program that incorporates effective and engaging programming, providing services to students, and educates students and the campus community on practices, policies and procedures, based on best practices and established theory.
  • Lead the Office of Student Life's (OSL) outreach, education and partnerships with faculty, staff, and students; including managing of OSL staff, interns, and student assistants.
  • Direct student engagement and leadership initiatives, and programs that incorporate best practices and research.
  • Develops, manages, maintains, and oversees a culturally responsive training program for student organizations, their executive boards, and their members on University processes, procedures, and protocols to ensure understanding and foster engagement. Additionally, develops and oversees a comprehensive training program for faculty and staff advisors to student organizations on University processes, procedures, and protocols to ensure understanding and foster engagement and collaboration.
  • Develops and promotes culturally responsive leadership development and education for students. Develops, manages, maintains and oversees a comprehensive student leadership development program. Creates and implements an operational framework based on established theory and leads efforts to partner with Division and campus experts to create programming, trainings, and workshops.
  • Utilizes technology to improve services and systems and provide more access for students to participate in cocurricular engagement activities.
  • Oversee the campus-wide education, implementation and timely completion of student organizations recognition that aligns to CSU Executive Order 1068 and Dominguez Hills Student Organization policies
  • Works with committees and tasks forces to review and analyze existing policies, practices and initiatives and propose changes to increase student engagement and development.
  • Lead the implementation and education of Dominguez Hills Free Speech and time, place and manner policies related to student organizations and the Office of Student Life.
  • Develop and implement student organizations event approval policies, practices and workflow, which entails coordinating the approvals of individuals and departments that include student organization advisors, Dominguez Hills parking, event venue, Risk Management, Procurement, and University Police Department
  • Coordinate the review and analysis of current student recognition policies, practices and workflow and propose changes, as appropriate, that align to CSU policies and student affairs best practices
  • Design and facilitate the training of Office of Student Life professional staff, interns, and student staff to increase learning, development and effectiveness
  • Independently propose, create, and direct initiatives that educate and train faculty and staff as student organization advisors to meet compliance of Executive Order 1068, Dominguez Hills Student Organization
  • Manage the recruitment, training and evaluation of the OSL professional staff, interns and student assistants.
  • Develop and maintain a system of communication and feedback among OSL staff designed to facilitate communication within OSL and between ASI, LSU, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the financial oversight for department and programs including the development and management of departmental budget, financial assessments, allocations, and resource management. 20% Coordination of major events, workshops and programming:
  • Manage Student Life annual events, trainings, and workshops including event coordination, communication with stakeholders and developing run-of-shows.
  • Design and implement marketing and programming to support events and programs.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of campus wide events designed to engage students and enhance their learning and development. 10% Assessment, Data, and Analytics:
  • In consultation with the Sr. Program Manager of Student Life Assessment and Planning, plan and execute Office of Student Life assessment and evaluation initiatives.
  • Develop presentations and infographics that showcase OSL student engagement and demonstrate engagement outcomes.
  • Systematically gather Office of Student Life data and work with the Sr. Program Manager of Student Life Assessment and Planning to produce reports that demonstrate student learning and development 10% Administration of Student Support Tools:
  • Administration and integration of a co-curricular student engagement platform designed to capture student engagement data.
