Position Summary:

A-State invites applications for qualified, experienced adjunct teaching faculty. Adjunct Instructors are hired to teach on a per course basis. Each academic term may present the need to hire new or additional Adjunct Instructors. This position requires faculty to teach in a fully online school counseling program.   Doctoral level candidates are preferred. 

 

This position is part-time and an adjunct will be limited to teaching a maximum of 9 hours at all system campuses. 


Under general supervision, Adjuncts will deliver curriculum for assigned course(s); effectively communicate class content to students in an online environment; evaluate students' progress in attaining goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes; assist in retention efforts, and communicate with the Program Director regarding course questions or concerns 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

    Adheres to all applicable university academic and employment policies identified in the Employee and Faculty handbooks and academic catalogs Develops course syllabus for each course assigned. The syllabus will include learning objectives and any required university information.  Distribute the syllabus to campus administration and enrolled students. Instructs the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog, relates instruction to course and academic program outcomes as may be defined by course or program assessment plans. Prepare and grade exams based on course objectives and published scheduled exams, and returns all assignments/graded work in a timely manner. Implements evaluation of outcomes assessments and achieves established results while maintaining college standards and student satisfaction. Work creatively in all assigned courses to keep students engaged to assist in increasing student retention. Submit grades at the appropriate time. Candidates must possess a strong familiarity with the ASCA National Model and ASCA Professional Standards and Competencies Ability to teach online school counseling courses and engage in service duties as appropriate for the program Provide comprehensive feedback on student assignments and discussion posts in order to promote learning and growth Willingness to integrate Zoom sessions into classes (at least 1 per session) in order to enhance faculty / peer interaction and augment learning Contribute as a collegial member of the School Counseling Program Possess effective time management and communication skills in regard to working with critical stakeholders
  • Be responsive to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Director.

Foundational Knowledge and ASCA National Model
Social Cultural Foundations / Possess a high degree of multicultural competence and cultural responsiveness
Ethical & Legal Issues
Group Counseling
Counseling Children and Adolescents
Psycho-Social Aspects of Counseling
Theories of Professional School Counseling
Crisis and Trauma
Special Populations

Adjuncts must have experience in school counseling related clinical courses, including:
Practicum
Internship I
Internship II

Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation techniques, and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.

Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.

An individual with a terminal degree appropriate for School Counselor educators
Adjuncts are permitted to teach 9 hours per fall and spring semester and 3 to 6 hours each summer term.

This position has been identified as a telecommuting position. The duties are performed during standard work hours of 8am-5pm at a predefined and approved work location. Individuals filling this role must have dedicated work space that provides privacy and security related to the work being performed. Additionally, individuals must have secure internet access with appropriate upload/download capabilities to perform the duties associated with the position. Individuals in this position will be required to review and acknowledge the Telecommuting Guidelines and Telecommuting Agreement for A-State.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have a Master’s Degree or higher in the discipline or related field or a Masters with 18 graduate semester hours in the subject taught; doctoral degree preferred

Academic and professional teaching experience within the teaching content
