Dean, Student Development

Class Description

The purpose of this class is to provide leadership and direction to programs and services that support an environment consistent with the mission of CCBC.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree and five (5) years of experience in student services, with a minimum of two at the level of Director or above. Doctorate degree in a related field is preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Provide direct supervision to the administration of assigned program areas.
  2. Develop and lead strategic vision that guides departmental programs and services.
  3. Provide direct leadership, supervision, and professional development support for assigned staff.
  4. Provide leadership for development and implementation of policies, programs, and student support services in assigned areas.
  5. Develop and manage operating budgets for all areas of responsibility.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Formulate policies and procedures within Student Development, including Academic Advisement, Career Development, Disability Support Services, Testing and Assessment, Student Development Courses, Advising Technologies, and Retention and Transition Services.
  2. Plan and implement systematic evaluations of all personnel.
  3. Establish and implement short and long-term goals, objectives, policies, budgets, and operating procedures.
  4. Collaborate with the Office of Instruction and Office of Enrollment Management, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, and Deans of Instruction, Dean of College Life, and Dean of Enrollment Management, to foster the continuing development and engagement of students to promote credentialing, completion, and transfer to career or upper division.
  5. Exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and management of budgets including monitoring and approval of expenditures.
  6. Hire, train, and provide leadership for development of staff.
  7. Formulate, develop, implement, and review policies, standards and outcomes to assure that students are given optimum supportive services and programs while pursuing their academic goals,
  8. Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff responsible for administration and implementation of supportive services and programs.
  9. Collaborate with college administrators and others to evaluate existing policies and practices and recommendations of new ones to support student achievement and goal attainment more effectively.   
  10. Promote an environment of cooperation and mutual effort to promote student persistence, retention, graduation, and transfer.
  11. Conduct assessments and evaluations of units to determine effectiveness, and implements corrective action as required for improvement.
  12. Research, plan, implement, and assess student development efforts in cooperation with other CCBC divisions representing multiple facets of student campus life.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost and/or as necessary to enhance services, programs, and staff effectiveness as it relates to student retention, completion and, transfer.
