The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute is seeking a senior research economist. This position does the following:

Conducts research in areas of economics and public policy, including regional economics, economic impact analyses, economic development, and public finance. Collaborates with a professional staff on research projects. Presents data and analysis to business and community leaders, media, and the public at large.

COMPENSATION:             $75,000 – $125,000, based on experience

WORK SCHEDULE:           Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct economic research projects, includes project oversight to ensure research projects meet the expected goals, budgets, and time-frames. Assist with preparation of the Economic Report to the Governor, macroeconomic forecasts, estimates of consumer sentiments, and public policy performance measures.
  2. Present data and analysis at conferences, meetings, and to the media.
  3. Mentor staff members, providing methodological and other guidance where needed.
  4. Assist with and attend quarterly advisory council meetings, and the Utah Economic Council and the Economic Club of Utah meetings.

Problem Solving

The problems and solutions encountered by this position vary depending on the area and structure of the department. This position frequently addresses problematic situations and often acts a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of the customers and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs.

Comments The incumbent must be proficient in making daily operational decisions in assigned area to ensure compliance of current regulations and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in economics, business, public policy, or a related area, or equivalency required; plus four years of experience; knowledge of the Utah and US economies; demonstrated leadership; and effective communication skills also required.
