Title: Employment Services Specialist

Department Community Services

Position Summary:

Performs duties necessary to facilitate the recruitment, career development, planning, training options and requirements for participation in this grant-funded project. The position involves advising students through career employment counseling and referral for additional support services as necessary for occupational decision making and employment planning. Serves as a lead staff person, working in collaboration with the Project Manager document, track data and provide analysis in meeting grant program performance measures, services provided, and assistance with instructors and staff, with grant and project-related activities. Assist students with career development services, including job search workshops, resume writing and interviewing skills assistance. Conducts outreach and recruitment with area employers to hire graduates. Understands basic education and employment advising functions.

Primary Duties Performed:
  • Provides students with career services counseling based on career assessment results, education/training success, and professional recommendations. Assists students with the development of short and long-term career goals and job search strategies, including resume and interview skills development.
  • Assists participants with use of the STLCC on-line catalog and other web connections in employment.
  • Works collaboratively with the Project's Personal Career Specialist on cross-training of basic functions of the two departments and in the provision of career exploration and development information and resources.
  • Understands basic employment advising, online employee applications and additional agency resources.
  • Participates in recruitment and engages in participant retention and intervention strategies to meet employment goals.
  • Acts as facilitator for employer recruiting activities such as career/job fairs, on-campus recruiting activities, workshops and credit and non-credit programs.
  • Assists with faculty and staff relationship-building to facilitate the exchange of information regarding career opportunities for students.
  • Responsible for follow-up tracking and reporting of data on participants to satisfy state agency and other federal requirements to provide project partners and their departments with data necessary to evaluate project success.
  • Serves as team lead position in coordinating with the Project Manager.
  • Responsible for large part of the success of a new program which will operate without existing standard operating procedures.
  • Addresses desired employment position licensing and certification requirements.
  • Writes reports and proposals as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, or closely related field
  • Three (3) years of relevant full-time experience
OR
  • Associate's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education or closely related field
  • Five (5) years of relevant full-time experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with career counseling and/or case management is preferred.
  • Experience with employer engagement.
Salary Range:

$48,320.00 Minimum
