Position Responsibilities:

The School of Education is excited to invite candidates who will serve as a Graduate Student Research Assistant with the Dean’s Office within the School of Education. The Graduate Student Research Assistant will work with the Dean and Ruth Harris
Professors to provide research support, data input/analysis, and other tasks as assigned for ongoing research efforts focused on students with dyslexia and language learning disabilities. The Graduate Student Research Assistant’s duties will consist of:
-Coordinating the Ruth Harris Scholars Initiative including working with external partners.
-Coordinating the annual Ruth Harris Dyslexia Symposium including collaboration with external partners.
-Coordinating a Professional Development with designated SOE staff for parents/families, students, and educators.
-Conducting literature reviews and/or pulling resources related to dyslexia and language learning disabilities.
-Responsible for data entry, data analysis, and academic publications and presentations.
-This position involves administrative and research activities focused on addressing the needs of school-aged students with dyslexia and language learning disabilities.

Required Qualifications:

-Must be currently enrolled as a Graduate student at VCU.
-Interest in working with students with dyslexia and language learning disabilities, their families and educators.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Strong problem solving skills and skills in taking initiative.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Ability to work independently and also as part of a collaborative team.
-Competency with technology and willingness to learn data management software.
-Proficient skills in technology including the use of Wix website management and utilizing Microsoft Office products. For example, Word, PowerPoint and spreadsheet and a proficient use of virtual platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
-Demonstrated experience working in fostering a diverse student, staff, and faculty environment, or commitment to do so as an
employee at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience working with students with dyslexia and language learning disabilities.
-Prior administrative/clerical skills.
-Prior research experience, qualitative or quantitative.
-Work experience in elementary and /or secondary education in the US or Internationally.
-Experience conducting literature searches and reviews, data analysis, academic publication and presentations.
-Experience with SPSS, SAS or other online data management software.

Salary Range: $15.00
