The Lab and Operations Manager reports to the Director of Computing Services. While the primary work location for this role will be the Florham Campus, the incumbent will coordinate training, scheduling, policies, and procedures for the Computer Centers at both New Jersey campuses.
The Manager functions largely without daily direct supervision and assumes substantial project and lab administration responsibility; works closely with faculty, staff and administrators for day-to-day computing needs and works closely with other departments’ professional and technical staff to coordinate work and functions.

Required Qualifications:
Principal Duties:
1. Recommends and implements a program with consistency in the overall training, policies, procedures, supervision, and job responsibilities of the Computer Center student staff at both the College at Florham and Metropolitan Campus Computer Labs. This program should include customer support skills, software application skills and techniques, computer hardware basics, networking concepts, and professional growth.
2. Conducts formal workshops in conjunction with the Department of Educational Technology in various software applications and other computer related areas such as components or new trends for the Computer Lab Assistants’ job knowledge and growth.
3. Recruits approximately 50 student employees as Computer Lab Assistants for the staffing of the College at Florham Campus Computer Labs. In addition, recruits approximately 2-3 students for specialized student jobs at the College at Florham; some will work directly with the PC Specialists or other full-time staff, and some will work directly with the Lab and Operations Manager
4. Supervises, trains, and provides technical assistance to Computer Lab Assistants and other student employees in the functionality of computer hardware and software. Supervises Computer Lab Assistants’ day-to-day activities. Provides backup for the Labs during periods of time when Computer Lab Assistants’ academic needs prevail, i.e., final exam week, etc.
5. Trains Computer Lab Assistants in policies and procedures. Writes, and updates as necessary, a student employee procedures manual
6. Writes and updates the Student Staff Expectations and reviews them with each student at the beginning of the semester. Completes, and revises as necessary, the evaluation at the end of the semester for each student employee.
7. Periodically reviews, and updates as necessary, the student job descriptions including but not limited to: Computer Lab Assistant, Senior Computer Lab Assistant, and Computing Services interns.
8. Responsible for maintaining an inventory of computer related supplies, advises on the ordering of computer supplies, and distributes computer supplies as appropriate.
9. Assists the PC Specialists during periods of “peak” activities.
10. Manages and maintains all operations of the Computing Services and School of Art’s PC Laboratories.
11. Keeps abreast of new software trends and developments and looks for ways to improve on Lab capabilities and appearance.
12. In conjunction with the Directors, maintains the security of hardware, software, and stored information. Reports promptly any conditions or events that warrant any concern or indicate unnecessary exposure or vulnerability of equipment and facilities.
13. Handles Computer Lab scheduling for multiple departments each semester including Enrollment Services.
14. Works with the Director of Student Life to assist in the Student Orientation.
15. Works with the Directors of the Academic Support Centers to coordinate Freshman Testing.
16. Resolves conflicts between student workers.
17. Works with payroll to resolve payment issues for the student workers.
18. Keeps Lab Assistants aware of any changes made in the Labs.
19. May supervise, train, and mentor staff who assist in the maintenance and support of information technology systems and networks.
20. Attends internal and external training sessions and meetings as directed and necessary for job performance.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of related post secondary course work in the area of Computer Science is preferred.
2. Thorough knowledge of application software including, but not limited to Microsoft Office suite of applications, Windows Operating Systems, e-mail, and internet fundamentals.
3. Minimum of two years experience working with PCs, which demonstrates technological knowledge of the components of computers and the ability to service and repair, PCs, printers, etc.
4. Previous experience as a supervisor for some number of years. Must be able to deal with the priorities of Student Lab Assistants’ academic needs.
5. Must have good customer service skills and be customer service oriented.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
7. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule as needed, including evening and weekend coverage.
8. Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies.
9. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to a car.
10. Periodic travel between the Metropolitan and Florham Campus is expected.
11. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check.
