Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $76,000 – $93,000 at Assistant Professor rank; $94,000 – $107,000 at Associate Professor rank; $108,000 – $115,000 at Full Professor . The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
The above salary ranges represent the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the ranges of possible compensation at the time of posting. MSU Denver offers a full benefits package.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will:
  • Teach up to 9 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. The position requires teaching hospitality and beverage courses at the undergraduate level (which may include Brewery Operations, Sensory Quality Analysis, Beverage Promotions, Beer Styles & Service, Beer & Spirits, Beers of the World, Bar/Beverage Operations, Homebrewing & Fermentation, etc.). This position is responsible for cultivating a rich learning environment for industry-bound students and those students who wish to pursue graduate studies.
  • Effectively integrate technology and applied learning into course work, applied research, and advising.
  • Will be given a 3-to-6 credit release each semester for the administrative responsibilities of leading the Brewery Operations degree and Beverage Management minor. This position is intended to be a 9-month appointment with the opportunity for regular summer administrative duties (for extra compensation) related to the administration of the Brewery Operations degree.
  • Will also lead the overall strategic leadership of the Brewery Operations degree program and Beverage Management minor, including all documentation related to alcoholic beverages and products within the School of Hospitality, manage all physical assets and revenue generation related to the Brewery Operations program, and leadership with our TTB certified QA/QC laboratory.
  • Will engage in cultivating our internal and external stakeholders, including management and leadership with stakeholders, such as the Brewing Industry Advisory Council, Tivoli Brewing Company, and the Siebel Institute.
The School of Hospitality houses four degree programs, including the one-of-a-kind Brewery Operations degree as well as a Beverage Management minor, and proudly provides a robust educational experience that balances critical thinking, operational knowledge, and industry preparation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in brewery operations, fermentation science, and/or brewing, cultivate industry relationships, facilitate the Beer Industry Council advisory meetings, market the program to the beverage and hospitality industry, and implement industry professional trainings. The candidate will develop and implement the degree’s short and long-term goals in alignment with the University and School’s vision, mission, and values. This includes being tasked with evaluating the feasibility of a cash-funded, industry-focused beverage management or beer certificate (or series of levels for the certificate), both for-credit and not-for-credit.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching 60%
This position will be required to teach up to 18 credit hours (or equivalent) per academic year and maintain minimum of 5 office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. This faculty member will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as in the laboratory setting. The successful candidate should have the background and expertise to be able to teach classes with a focus in brewery operations, brewing, production of beer/wine/spirits, bar and brewery operations, sensory evaluation of alcoholic products, inventory, purchasing, legal expectations for alcoholic beverage production, as well as other beverage related courses.

Beverage Program Coordination 40%
The duties of beverage program coordination includes the Brewery Operations degree and the Beverage Management minor. Responsibilities will include view and revision of the associated curriculum including shepherding the curriculum through all curricular processes, promotion of the QA/QC lab services, community and industry engagement, identifying potential affiliate faculty, scheduling courses, designing/offering certificates, support of fundraising initiatives within the School of Hospitality.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and supporting students from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds including traditional, first-generation, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, adult, military, second career, second chance, concurrent high school/ college students, and students with mental health, learning, or physical differences.

Required Qualifications

1. Terminal degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Administration, Hospitality Business, Hospitality Leadership, Beverage Management, Fermentation Sciences, or other related disciplines.
2. Experience with course programming, curriculum development, and/or industry-related initiatives related to beverage management, beer/wine/spirits education, and/or brewery or bar operations.

Preferred Qualifications

1. At least one degree in Hospitality Management or related field.
2. Demonstrated dedication to undergraduate teaching and learning and the mission of a public, comprehensive, regional university.
3. 3 years teaching experience in an institution of higher education.
4. Record of effective scholarship and research in higher education.
5. Industry experience in beverage management, brewery or bar operations, and beer/wine/spirit education.
6. Demonstrated ability to create and support an active, student-centered learning environment.
7. A track record of academic transformation and knowledge of online teaching strategies (synchronous and asynchronous), curriculum development, and/or strategic planning.
8. Nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to hospitality, beverage management, and/or . (For example: TIPs, SP, sommelier certification, a Cicerone or International Brewing & Distilling certificate or Certified Beer Judge credentials, CHIA, CHSP, CHE, CHRM, CHA, etc.). Please explain the relevance of the certificate(s) to this position in your cover letter.
9. Experience in working collaboratively with diverse colleagues and community.
10. Demonstrated contributions to equity through scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and service.
11.
