Under general supervision assists the Board of Regents, President, Vice President for Administration and Finance and other entities and University officials in strengthening Texas Southern University’s ties with federal, state, and local government, the private sector, and others in order to foster positive interactions, involvement, and support for the University.

Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) or higher.
Required Licensing/Certification
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred.

Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Essential Duties Summary
- Develops and implements an ongoing legislative strategic plan.
- Serves as liaison between the University and federal, state and local elected/appointed officials and other institutions/organizations.
- Attends legislative hearings, committee meetings, and briefings.
- Coordinates special projects and activities geared toward enhancing understanding of and fostering commitments to the University’s legislative funding priorities.
- Promotes positive relations with area schools and other organizations concerned about higher education for children through employee/staff volunteer involvement.
- Represents TSU in a leadership capacity on the national, state and local level of policy-making boards/committees, as well as industry organizations.
- Analyzes, interprets and explains legislative bills (state and federal) and prepares presentations.
- Conducts fact finding interviews and prepares narrative reports. Composes business letters, reports and documents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
