The Henry Luce Foundation (HLF) is seeking an experienced director to oversee the Clare Boothe Luce Program for Women in STEM and the Luce Scholars Program.

Since its first grants in 1989, the Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Program for Women in STEM has become the nation’s single largest private source of funding in higher education for women in science, mathematics, and engineering. It seeks to advance work to close the gender gap in STEM disciplines and across leadership roles. To date, the program has supported more than 2,900 women and awarded grants to more than 200 different institutions, including 65 grants to Minority-Serving Institutions. The Luce Scholars Program is a nationally competitive fellowship program that offers early-career leaders immersive, professional experiences in Asia. Launched in 1974, the program aims to forge stronger, more compassionate relationships across borders by creating opportunities for young Americans to deepen their understanding of the countries, cultures, and people of Asia.

A member of the Luce Foundation’s full-time staff in New York City, the program director reports to the Foundation’s President and CEO, Dr. Mariko Silver, and supervises program staff who directly manage the day-to-day operations of each program. Responsible for developing and leading key aspects of program development and grant-making, the program director travels widely to campuses and conferences, domestically and internationally, and participates actively in professional networks that share the Foundation's interests and goals.

 

The ideal candidate will excel in the following areas:

 

 

  • Strategic Leadership: The program director will be a strategic leader who will help set and execute a vision for the Foundation’s leadership programs.

 

  • Partnership: Working with internal and external partners, the program director will provide ongoing counsel and expertise to the President and CEO, the Foundation board, staff, and external partners. The program director will bring experience working with programs that support individuals such as fellowships, scholarships, and mid-career development programming.

 

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: The program director must have prior experience leading initiatives to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in a complex organization and be committed to advancing these values internally and within the broader community.

 

 

  • Analytics: the program director will have experience with program evaluation, and will be analytical and data-driven, able to conceptualize and analyze both problems and solutions, and identify key metrics that will help both programs work towards their strategic objectives.

 

  • Communication: The program director must be able to build and sustain collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization and with external partners that work with HLF. Experienced network builder who is gregarious, charismatic, and

 

  • Higher Education Management: The program director will have led organization-wide initiatives have a strong understanding of higher education processes, structures, and cultures—particularly STEM—and bring broad and deep networks in these areas.

 

Compensation and Benefits: The Foundation provides a competitive benefits package, generous time-off policies, and operates on a hybrid work schedule. The salary range for this position is $175,000- $215,000.
