BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the area Supervisor, cares for and maintains the college's athletic fields and related facilities.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:
One year of generally related experience in the care of playgrounds or athletic fields is required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in athletic field maintenance work.

ABILITY TO:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions; make minor repairs of athletic equipment.

ADDITIONAL ABILITY STANDARD:
This position has physical requirements which are essential to the job function. These requirements include the following: Applicants must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5 to 50 pounds; carry loads ranging from 20 to 50 pounds for distances up to 20 feet; capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; depending upon the project, may spend 20 to 50% of the work day sitting, 20 to 50% of the work day standing, 20 to 50% of the work day walking.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid California driver's license, and have and maintain an insurable driving record acceptable to the District's insurance carrier, is required. Must have or be eligible to obtain and maintain a State of California Certified Commercial Applicator's license (Parts A, B, & C) or Applicator Certificate by the end of the probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Cleans a variety of areas including fields, stadiums, parking lots, press boxes, and snack bars and
restrooms.
2. Checks and repairs irrigation systems, reprograms clocks as needed.
3. Prepares fields, including mowing, edging, spiking, striping, over seeding, sod replacement, leveling for athletic events including soccer, baseball, football, tennis courts and track.
4. Checks playing surfaces and stadium for safety hazards.
5. Rebuilds sporting areas including shot put, long jump, mounds, baseball plate, and bull pen areas.
6. Replaces windscreens.
7. Operates tractors, backhoes and related power equipment; maintains equipment and conducts minor repairs.
8. Mixes paint for fields, parking lot stripping.
9. Orders supplies.
10. Performs tree trimming as required.
11. Applies herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and insecticides.
12. Relates with public groups using stadiums for graduations, public and sporting events.
13. Participates in District-provided in-service training programs.
14. Maintains a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
15. Performs other duties, related to the position, as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

SALARY: Salary grades consist of nine steps. A new employee is normally placed on Step 1 of the grade. Changes in step placement take place on the first day of the first month following the anniversary date of attaining permanent classified employee status until the maximum of the grade is reached.

HOLIDAYS: There are 13 holidays observed each year. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.

VACATION: Employees are granted 12 days of vacation per year through the first five years of service to the District; 15 days after completion of five continuous years of service to the District; 20 days after completion of ten continuous years of service to the District; and 22 days after completion of 15 continuous years of service to the District. This computation is based on full-time, twelve-month employment. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.

SICK LEAVE: One day of sick leave for each month of service is granted. This is based on full-time, twelve-month employment. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months. There is no limit to the number of days of sick leave which may be accrued.

FRINGE BENEFITS: The District provides a health and welfare benefit package for employees and legal qualifying dependents. Those employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months will receive a pro-rata share of the benefit package. The dollar value of the package is a subject of negotiation between the District and the Bargaining Unit.

The work location and assignment within a job classification is determined by the District and may be subject to change.
